REx-PN for Ontario and BC: Who Should Prepare?

Understand the practical-nurse titles and why regulator instructions determine exam need.

Quick answer

Ontario uses the title Registered Practical Nurse (RPN); British Columbia uses Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The REx-PN is the entry-to-practice exam for applicants those regulators direct to it.

Start here

Begin with the College of Nurses of Ontario or the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. Their applicant rules can differ according to education, prior licensing and registration history.

What to do next

Use the regulator’s current test plan and candidate information before buying preparation materials. In BC, some previously licensed applicants do not need the exam; verify your own route rather than relying on a general checklist.

Prepare with a plan

A good prep plan includes practical-nursing concepts, safe-care prioritisation, mixed questions and feedback on clinical reasoning. Ask BeeRN about the current REx-PN course format.
