CPNRE Eligibility: Why Your Province Comes First
Avoid preparing for the wrong exam by identifying the Canadian regulator and registration category first.
There is no single Canadian practical-nurse licence. The regulator in your intended province or territory decides registration requirements and whether you need the CPNRE.
Start here
Licensed Practical Nurse is the title used in most provinces; Ontario uses Registered Practical Nurse. The title alone does not tell you which exam applies. Ontario and British Columbia use the REx-PN for many candidates.
What to do next
Choose your province, find its practical-nurse regulator, and read the current applicant pathway. Ask it about education review, language evidence, work history, exam authorisation and any exemptions that might apply to you.
Prepare with a plan
Keep a simple record of official instructions and deadlines. If you change provinces, check the new regulator rather than assuming that the earlier decision transfers unchanged.
