NCLEX-RN for International Nurses: Your First Three Decisions
Before you book coaching or an exam, identify the regulator, eligibility route and test plan.
NCLEX-RN preparation makes sense only after you know which nursing regulator you will apply to and whether it will authorise you to test.
Start here
For the US, choose a state board of nursing. For Canada, choose the province or territory and RN category. Australia may use NCLEX-RN within an outcomes-based assessment pathway for some internationally qualified nurses; it is not a universal step.
What to do next
Gather qualification records, identity documents and any language evidence the regulator requests. Follow the regulator’s sequence for assessment, application and authorisation. Do not assume passing an exam alone grants a licence.
Prepare with a plan
Once your route is clear, use the test plan and a diagnostic exercise to build a study schedule. Practise clinical judgment and review rationales weekly.
